Lost Stars

Overview:
Based on the universe of Bishoujo Senshi SailorMoon, mixing fiction with some of the real history of the White Star Line.

General Theme(s): (DiGi Charat) Twinkle Dream

Plot:
A young, overzealous and undertrained Senshi dies in an attempt to stave off the mysterious force that threatens her home star. Her Sailor Crystal shatters, the three surviving shards spinning away through space while the Senshi's spirit returns to the Galaxy Cauldron. The unknown Senshi's star drifts away, out of danger, and matures. The formation of a planet orbiting the star prompts the rebirth of the Senshi's spirit. Without a vessel it's drawn inexplicably to Earth, the resting place of the three original crystal shards.
Enter Will Lighter: confirmed geek, antiquarian, bookworm and paranormal enthusiast. On a whim, he lets a friend talk him into attending a seance to be held at sea, over the wreck of the infamous ocean liner Titanic. Will starts to hear voices - not unusual for him - and suddenly finds himself saddled with a needy, clinging ship-spirit... and a quest he never expected.

Characters:

Name: Lawrence Wilson "Will" Lighter
Age: 25
Height: 6'5", unfit in the middle
Hair: Brown, shaggy and unkempt
Eyes: Grey

About: Will stoops when standing and slumps when seated, his bad posture a result of both hours spent hunched over desks and years of ignoring his mother's advice on the subject. He has a rather long nose, sideburns so badly in need of a trim they seem to be approaching mutton-chop status, and a few stray chin whiskers he never seems to catch with the razor.. not that shaving has ever been a priority with him.
He usually looks rumpled, favoring worn denim jeans or slacks, oversized shirts and sweaters, and is never seen without a pair of tinted eyeglasses with thick frames (the type generally referred to in the Army as BCGs). Whether he actually needs the glasses or not is a subject of occasional debate among friends and acquaintances. Will is in fact educated, well read and intelligent; an abstract thinker.
He's not graceful or overly coordinated, but when he's lost in some research or task, can be surprisingly efficient as long as nobody interrupts him. He also has a good memory. While not especially organized, he does consider hygiene to be important, and never misses meals no matter what he's doing or how deeply immersed in it he is.
Keenly interested in the paranormal since early childhood, Will tends to take his hobby seriously. He doesn't bother much with EMF meters, has been known to snicker uncontrollably when people with tape recorders try to "contact the spirits", and despises orbs with a passion. Will's interest in the field stems from his being sensitive himself, seeing and hearing ghosts most of his life. Raised in a more or less traditional household in the States, Will has traveled quite a bit over the years. He drifts more or less aimlessly through life, still unsure what he wants to do with himself now that college is over, content for the moment to follow his instincts.

At the point where Lost Stars begins, he's finishing up a tour of haunted locations in the British Isles. He's unsure what exactly it is he's supposed to do with the ship-spirits he encounters, or why it is he's being instructed to bring them together, but is secretly excited at the prospect of having an adventure.

Name: Guardian Titanic
Height: 4" (sprite), can also appear as a spark of light.
Skin: Caucasian, pale
Hair: White, fine and straight
Eyes: Blue, pale

Type: Fragment
RoI: Light/Guidance

Colors:
P: Dark Blue
S: Red
T: Cream
M: Brass

Abilities: Titanic can generate a strong flash of light, similar to a distress rocket or flare, when she's frightened. When sustained for any period of time, the light begins to pulsate like a lighthouse beacon.
Titanic also seems to be fast, even for a supernatural being. When on the move, she appears to be either blurring or flickering, if she can be seen at all.

About: Titanic is the first spirit Will finds. Anchored to her Crystal fragment, which is buried among the liner's wreckage (it was originally in the iceberg Titanic struck), she flits desperately from ship to ship and iceberg to iceberg as they pass through her area, not wanting to have to stay on the ocean floor. Having just awakened on the night of her ship's demise, the spirit is still very childlike and rather traumatized. She develops a strong attachment to Will, and wants him all to herself. Titanic is very much afraid of deep water and the dark, and will retreat into her fragment if she is required to cross the ocean. Shy, high-strung and a little vain, she spends most of her time 'asleep' in her crystal fragment, unless someone or something is bothering Will. When aggravated, she's likely to throw a tantrum and can easily be mistaken for a poltergeist.

Will obtains her fragment by promising to stay with her if she'll go down and get it for him. He points out he'd have a hard time helping her if she can't follow him away from her ship.

The Titanic design is technically the one that started it all. Olympic was designed with ideas I was unable to use for Titanic, and these got reincorporated when Titanic's fuku design was repossessed.

Name: Guardian Britannic
Height: 4" (sprite), doesn't change size.
Skin: Caucasian, ruddy
Hair: Brown, curly
Eyes: Green

Type: Fragment
RoI: Light/Healing

Colors:
P: White
S: Grey
T: Red
M: Brass

Abilities: Britannic can lay on hands and ease aches and pains or heal a minor wound. Recipients of this treatment report warmth and a peaceful, calming effect.
Britannic also seems to be more or less multilingual. She can make sense of just about any language, though she has difficulty if it's not spoken, and translate it.

About: Britannic is notable largely in that her fragment belonged to someone rather than something. She became attached to her ship after its sinking off the coast of Greece in 1916. The fragment was worn as a pendant, an heirloom believed to be lucky. The nurse it belonged to was taken in by a Greek family after the disaster and later married and settled there, never moving very far from the area where Britannic sank.
Britannic herself is a placid creature, gentle and loving. She tends to be a bit scatterbrained at times, and gets 'vapors' when overexcited. She also has a tendency to mother everyone, especially if she's healing them. Most susceptible to this are Will, who she chivvies frequently back onto the straight and narrow, and Titanic, who's almost as dependent on Britannic as she is on their benefactor (probably due to the similarities in the deaths of their ships). She spends a lot of time physically manifested and can be seen even by those not sensitive to the supernatural. Unfortunately, she's unable to change size, which causes a lot of confusion. She seems to be drawn to those who need the most care or comforting and loves tending to them, something that irks Will no end, since he's not very good at expressing sympathy, has no bedside manner to speak of, and is generally not good with sick people.

Will finds her fragment second. Britannic is less than pleased with his method of obtaining it, since he used some trickery to get it away from its owners, but she goes along with his plan.

Britannic's physical appearance is based on that of the personification of Britain. She was originally going to be able to summon a trident as a weapon.

Name: Guardian Olympic
Height: 4" (sprite), can appear as a ghostly young girl.
Skin: Brown, polished
Hair: Black, thick and coarse
Eyes: Brown

Type: Fragment
RoI: Light/Protection

Colors:
P: Cream
S: Brown
T: Navy
M: Brass

Abilities: Olympic has the ability to essentially pause time by halting the momentum of all moving objects within a small area for up to a full minute. Doing this tires her out, and she'll spend a day or so in her fragment, recharging.
Olympic is also sensitive to danger, and seems able to plot a safe route most anywhere. Likewise, she can also locate and point out hazards, particularly of a supernatural nature.

About: Olympic is the oldest and strongest of the three spirits, as her ship managed to live out its full life. She's also the only 'true' ship-spirit of the three. Her crystal fragment was somehow built into the clock on the liner's first-class staircase, and she took her appearance from the timepiece when she first manifested. Olympic followed her ship throughout its career, and became adept at feeding off of the emotions and energies of the passengers, looking after and tending to them to the best of her ability in return. As a result, she developed the ability to distance herself physically from her fragment. This served her well after her ship was dismantled in 1935, when she began occasionally hitching rides on other ships.
Olympic is cheerful, gregarious and has a curious streak. As the oldest of the three ship spirits, she's also somewhat more mature and worldly-wise than her 'sisters'. She loves to travel and isn't entirely happy that she always has to come back to her crystal fragment in the end. She has a fondness for military ships, and can usually be found, when travelling, on aircraft carriers and the like, caring for the seamen and soldiers on board. She also likes to visit 'haunted' ships, as she has an interest in ship-spirits like herself and wants to find more of them.

Will obtains her fragment last. The clock containing it is on special loan from Southampton, travelling with an exhibition of Titanic memorabilia. She agrees to come along out of curiosity about Titanic and Britannic.

Future Plot:
Plan is to write the ending, basically, with Titanic and Britannic being backstory. Will brings them to Atlanta, where Olympic's fragment is, and there runs into both Guardian Atlanta (Belle), and Sailor Moonshine (Peggy). Hilarity ensues.

- Will refers to Peggy as 'your delightfully gourd-shaped friend', when asking Belle who she is.
- Peggy mentions that Will has some of the worst juju on him she's ever seen. She crushes on him a little, but it's all in good fun and she backs off when it becomes plain he has a thing for Belle.
The recombining of the Sailor Crystal fragments takes place here, forming Sailor White Star (formerly Iota Horologii). White Star decides to become a wanderer due to her circumstances and the experiences of her Crystal in her absence. Will is surprised to find out about the secret identities of the girls (something along the lines of 'Oh my God, how many of you ARE THERE?!').
